Senior Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician

Our knowledgeable and dedicated Ontario Geomatics team is searching for a Senior Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician, to join our Ottawa location. We are looking for someone with a technical background, love of exploring, working outside, and a voracious appetite for utility locating!
What you will do:
- Manage and perform accurate field buried utility locating.
- Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field utility locating work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and utility locating methodology.
- Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
- Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
- Review, manage and record keeping of all buried utilities ranging from Gas, electrical, telecommunications, fibers, city/municipality infrastructure ex: water, sewer, sanitary, storm, etc.
- Provide guidance, training and mentorship to junior locators as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
- Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program.
- Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Locating Technician, with a focus on damage prevention and utility locating.
- ORCGA certification preferred DPT-100 and DPT-200.
- Previous experience locating municipal infrastructure.
- Previous experience locating underground utilities: Gas, Electrical, Telecommunications, Cable Coax cables, Fibers optics , water , sanitary , storm , sewer, etc. within Ontario .
- Previous experience reading, and interpreting various types of buried utility records: Enbridge gas FRA, Datapak , Bell records , ArcGIS , city infrastructure , Multviewer , etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot and interpret measurements discrepancies and or record issues before following the Geoverra escalation process o to resolve and accordingly complete locating assignments if any .
- Experience and ability to demonstrate sketching and drawing capabilities to transform utility locating marks and field work into paperwork accurately and in timely manner.
- Strong working knowledge of utility locating theories, fundamentals and ground disturbance practices.
- Experienced in a municipal setting completing locates and scans.
- Familiarity with Trimble RTK or Handheld GPS would be considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget in a field environment.
- Effective communication skills - verbal and written; accurate and legible field notes and sketches.
- Knowledge and experience of pipeline, lease and facility construction would be considered an asset.
- The ability to develop and motivate line locating staff and work well in a team environment.
- A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.
Job Conditions:
- Out of town work (possible shift work) and frequent travel required.
- Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
